Description: The US government had the idea to use nukes for road/canal construction. It was quietly discarded because a test blast was boycotted by residents. In the spirit of Dr. Strangelove, a blackly sardonic people’s history of atomic blunders and near-misses revealing the hushed-up and forgotten episodes in which the great powers gambled with catastrophe. The film tells stories such as that of the accidental drop of a nuclear weapon on the house of train conductor Walter Gregg, the perilous shoot of a John Wayne movie in a radioactive canyon and the loss of four hydrogen bombs in Greenland. In Russia, however, a lake in Kazakhstan was blown up. It was advertised as a swimming lake.
